Programming in the early 1980s. First AI textbook published at 19. Part of Executive Team that sold a company for $42M in 2005. RAD founded 2016. AITX public 2017. The thesis has not changed.
Steve's father gave him a Commodore computer in the early 1980s. A few years later, he was writing curriculum material on artificial intelligence. At 19 he self-published it. Took out a loan, made sales, distributed 400 copies to schools. That was the first venture.
Steve founded RAD in 2016 after seeing an early Nvidia Jetson prototype in the Nvidia offices in 2015. Raised $500K from family and friends. AITX went public via reverse merger in 2017. The company scaled manufacturing in 2021 from a 6,000 sqft facility to a 30,000 sqft facility. The company currently has over 1,000 units deployed worldwide.
As founder, Steve's involvement is function-dependent. Sales are managed by other senior management. Manufacturing is a self-sufficient team largely recruited from Michigan's automotive sector. Technology and product decisions remain closely held by Steve. The founding technical vision and the company direction must remain coupled.
At the RAD Excellence Center in Ferndale, Michigan, engineers, developers, and security experts work alongside Steve every day. They share one belief: autonomous AI will fundamentally change how the world stays safe.
